On Saturday 6th April 2013 I visited a farmer’s garden at Ivunamba in Jinja District and found very very many wilding of Maesopsis
eminii locally known as musizi. The farmer was destroying them from her garden. It was apparent that she had no land
where to transplant them to. Another farmer told me that M. eminii requires much land in an agroforestry setting, and that it is grown at a spacing of 10 x 10 feet (3 x 3 m). According to Orwa et al. (2009)[1]M. eminii should be planted at a spacing of 5 x 5 m,
but that it can also be grown at spacing of 1.8 x 2.7 m. Under these circumstances, successful planting of species such as this
one will require the collaboration of farmers with access to adequate land.
